Distract Yourself

There were a couple of times when I felt really low, and some people could pick up on that (often those with similar experiences).

I remember having a conversation with someone who recommended to “distract yourself”. Hobbies, going out, whatever it is. Just something easy-going, no big thoughts, just something fun to help you lift you out of the depression.

I chose to go to YouTube, and do some random searches for things with “fun” in it, and thankfully there’s quite a bit out there for that. 🙂

In the end I ended up back to my science fiction roots, and after a while I was starting to feel somewhat better, so I ended up writing three science fiction stories myself.

There are many little things you can do to feel better. Just do them on a consistent basis. It helps raise the low mood of the depression for a while (I’m not sure what the medical reason is for this is, but it does work).

Picking up the Pieces

Before I was hospitalized in 2005 I wrote a computer jigsaw puzzle game called “New Zealand in Pieces” with absolutely amazing pictures of New Zealand.

It never quite reached its full potential due to a shift in ‘priorities’, so I’ve recently decided to release the game for free as “Picking up the Pieces”.

It’s meant to achieve two things:
1. Raise awareness for mental health (see the about text in the game for more details)
2. Thank the people that basically saved my ass

The images in the game were kindly provided by Virtual Oceania. They’re really awesome. 🙂

You can download the game from the Downloads section.

Enjoy! 🙂

P.S. In the 1800’s people that were labelled ‘insane’, were marked with a green colour. The colour stuck, but nowadays it stands for new life, growth, and beginnings. And that’s ‘why’ there’s a green sheep in the game. 😉

Don't ask :)
